Beatles Sale

CAMEO MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT SALE – TUESDAY 5 AUGUST, 2008, 11AM

A RARE BEATLES FIND! - VIEW THE FULL CATALOGUE ONLINE HERE

Our August sale will be offering a superb selection of Beatles records & memorabilia. Amongst the items on offer will be a newly discovered reel-to-reel tape. The tape, believed to have been recorded in 1964, contains a number of Lennon & McCartney composed songs as well their cover versions from other artists’ compositions. Double-sided, and running at 7.5 ips, it lasts for approximately 30 minutes.

Tracks; Side 1 - 1 ‘Don’t Put Me Down Like This’, 2 ‘I Feel Fine’, 3 ‘She’s A Woman‘, 4 ‘Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby’, 5 ‘Honey Don’t, 6 ‘I’ll Follow The Sun’;

Side 2 - 1 ‘I’ll Follow The Sun’, 2 ‘ I’m A Loser’, 3 ‘I’ll Follow The Sun’, 4 ‘ Too Much Monkey Business’, 5 ‘Nitty Gritty’, 6 ‘Somethings Gotta Hold Of Me’, 7 ‘I Shall Not Be Moved’.

The track ‘I’ll Follow the Sun’, which runs on the end of side 1 and the beginning of side 2, is broken by a number of false starts, conversation and banter between the group members. Lennon & McCartney are clearly audible on a number of occasions during their attempt to record this track. Here is sample of some of the lines that can clearly be heard;

John Lennon ‘I’m playing baby’
John Lennon ‘I know I can’t stop laughing because I can see them two’
John Lennon ‘I’m not looking at you’
Paul McCartney ‘You were’
John Lennon ‘It’s just going to get funnier and funnier as the evening goes on’
John Lennon ‘It’s 11o’clock you know’
Paul McCartney ‘Let’s just try this once more and if it’s the last one that’s hard lines’

they then start the track again before another breaking into further laughter and chat. This continues along the same unsuccessful lines for further attempts. However, the track is recorded without interruption on side 2, track 3.

A full version can only be heard at Cameo’s saleroom during viewing times or by special appointment (0118 9713772).

Estimate £8,000 – 12,000.
